Your Own Albemarle County Appellation

Because certain portions of land within Vineyard Estate are situated in a position to be integrated with Kluge Estate vineyards, owners of those properties have a unique opportunity to personally experience the vintner lifestyle, crafting fine wines from grapes grown on their estate.

From simply growing grapes for sale or following through to the actual winemaking and bottling of your own personal label wines, the options range from the contemplation of slowly ripening fruit on your vines to sharing the product of your own appellation.

The Terroir
The Charlottesville area’s mild four-season climate provides one of the essential ingredients for Albemarle County’s unique terroir. Kluge Estate’s position on the southeast flank of Carter’s Mountain provides beneficial sun exposure and natural drainage while protecting vines from wind, rain and frost. Finally, the soil itself is composed of red clay, sandy clay, limestone and gravel, similar to other great wine regions and ideal for grape growing.
